Miramar is bringing together the many Caribbean backgrounds that make up the city for a Taste of the Caribbean Islands, a food festival featuring local eateries.

The free event is scheduled for 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at City Hall Plaza.

The city is celebrating National Caribbean American Heritage Month with a tour around the islands via dining.

Expect a culinary experience featuring nearby favorites: La Carreta’s Cuban cuisine, Juici Patties’ Jamaican food, La Casita Tropical’s Dominican eats and more.

“You’re getting a little sample, so by the time you get a sample here, a sample there … you’re gonna be full,” Vice Mayor Carson “Eddy” Edwards said in an interview on “Good Morning Miramar.”

Edwards took on the event started by former commissioner Alexandra P. Davis.

Some of the cultures that will be represented at Taste of the Caribbean Islands are Haitian, Dominican, Cuban, Jamaican, St. Lucian, Bajan and Trinidadian, he said.

“The Caribbean is English, French, Spanish, so you’re going to get that journey through the Caribbean,” Edwards said.

There will also be a mixologist who will put on a “dazzling” show, according to Edwards.

As for music, sounds of the islands will be brought by She-J Hercules and DJ Lady Terra, the winner of Miramar’s Selecta Showdown DJ competition in February.

“Food and music, that’s what brings us together,” Edwards said.
