Calling all islanders: Caribbean-American festival returning to southwest Broward
If you’re an islander living in southwest Broward, it’s your time to shine.
Pembroke Pines will host its annual Caribbean-American Heritage Festival at the Charles F. Dodge City Center on Saturday, June 27.
Free and open to all ages, the event runs from 7 to 11 p.m. and promises creative activities, authentic cuisines, cultural exhibits and plenty of live entertainment.
Headlining the festival is a concert by Jamaican star Wayne Wonder and his backing band, Alias.
Famous for dancehall and reggae fusion tracks, Wonder is best known for the 2003 hit “No Letting Go,” which launched the islander to international fame.
Openers include soca musician Tricia Kelshall, reggae artist Devine Songz, comedy and music duo MC Nikki Crosby & DJ T-Rex, stilt dancers USVI Moko Jumbies, and steel drums group Lauderhill Steel Ensemble.
Families and kids can participate in several arts and crafts activities courtesy of the Island Space Caribbean Museum, a nonprofit art gallery and museum in Plantation dedicated to preserving and celebrating islander culture.
And to keep the fun fueled all night long, a diverse showcase of Caribbean foods and dry goods will be available for guests.
