Miramar police warn of World Cup traffic. Expect travel delays on these roads
The FIFA World Cup is underway, causing excitement across Broward and Miami-Dade as Hard Rock Stadium hosts games through July.
The game between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay on Monday, June 15, caused noticeable traffic, and Miramar police are warning residents that World Cup delays could spill into Miramar.
Here are the remaining match dates when Miramar residents can expect delays:
- Sunday, June 21
- Wednesday, June 24
- Saturday, June 27
- Friday, July 3
- Saturday, July 11
- Saturday, July 18
“Motorists can expect congestion and travel delays along major corridors, including County Line Road, Miramar Parkway, Red Road, and University Drive, particularly before and after scheduled matches. Allow extra travel time near Florida’s Turnpike, I-75, and surrounding southbound corridors,” Miramar police wrote on the city’s site.
That extra travel time was needed Monday due to restrictions on Florida’s Turnpike Exit 2X northbound and southbound ramp and the exit at NW 199th Street.
Without a FIFA parking pass, drivers weren’t allowed through 199th Street, between 27th Avenue and 14th Court.
All of this is taking place around the corner from Miramar’s main roads.
Miramar police were waiting with other local officers at checkpoints in the area, blocking traffic going eastbound on NW 199th Street from NW 27th Avenue.
Many drivers will likely reroute through Miramar if they are not headed to the stadium on game days.
Miami Gardens Police considered official checkpoints for residents that would reroute drivers through Miramar, but that plan never came about.
