A Miramar man was ordered back into custody after failing to submit to sobriety tests while awaiting trial for DUI manslaughter.

Dominick Rella, 21, was first arrested May 21 in connection with a March 25 crash in Fort Lauderdale. His bond was set at $84,000, and he secured his release on the condition that he submit to blood alcohol content tests, according to court documents.

Rella failed to submit to tests 11 times in June, and records show he was notified of the consequences of refusing to participate.

On July 6, a judge ordered that he be re-arrested and his release be revoked.

Fort Lauderdale police say Rella ran a red light in late March and collided with a BMW, causing it to crash into a fire truck, sending two people to a hospital. Police say Rella was driving 83 mph in a 35-mph zone.

The BMW driver died in the hospital, while a passenger was treated for head and spinal injuries, records show.

Rella’s charges include DUI manslaughter, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license, and he pleaded not guilty to all charges, court records show.
