Ky-Mani Marley to headline free Jamaica Independence Day celebration in Miramar
Jamaican pride is strong in Miramar, and even stronger in August as the country’s Independence Day is celebrated on Aug. 6.
Miramar will celebrate Jamaica’s “Emancipendence” with the Jamaica Ole Time Fair, scheduled from 3 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater.
This year marks the country’s 64th anniversary of independence.
The fair will feature live entertainment, a cultural showcase and Coronation Farmers’ Market, which appears to be a re-creation of the famous market in Kingston, Jamaica.
Previous Ole Time Fairs have featured a kids zone.
Headlining the fair is musician Ky-Mani Marley. He performed at the Journey to Kingston concert on May 30 at the Miramar Cultural Center and just released a single with Spragga Benz titled “Holy Life.”
Marley, one of Bob Marley’s children, was nominated for a Grammy for his album “Many More Roads.”
Other scheduled performers include Louie Culture, Warrior Love Band, D’Yani and DJ Billy Slaughter.
Warrior Love Band was recently seen at Sumfest, a reggae festival in St. Ann, Jamaica, and will be doing a tribute to Jimmy Cliff and Ernie Smith, two legendary Jamaican musicians who died within the past year.
This event is free, but parking is $10 and available to purchase in advance.
