New restaurant opens, Zumba, puzzle swap: Your guide to the week ahead in Miramar
All week, there are events around Miramar hosted by local organizations and the city government.
Check out what’s happening, whether you’re interested in community gatherings and classes or special events.
Here are some of the events taking place between Oct. 20-23.
Monday
ITBE Business Tour Day 1 — 1-6 p.m.
The International Trade & Business Expo is making a two-day stop in South Florida starting in Miramar at the Civic Center. This is a free opportunity for businesses to interact with delegates from the French West Indies, Africa, Europe and the Americas, for entrepreneurs, innovators and business leaders. The City of Miramar Economic Development and Housing Department called it an opportunity to “showcase Miramar’s potential as a hub for international collaboration.”
Tuesday
Raising Cane’s grand opening — 8 a.m.-11 p.m.
The new Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers restaurant will open at Miramar Parkway and SW 172nd Avenue . The first 100 customers in line who purchase a combo will receive merchandise and a card for free food to use on their next visit, and attendees who arrive before 9 a.m. will be entered in a chance to win free chicken fingers for a year.
Zumba on the plaza — 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Free Zumba on the plaza continues every Tuesday at the Miramar Town Center Plaza. This weekly group meets outside for dance instruction with Gabriela Jurado.
The Moth StorySLAM — 7 p.m.
The Moth is hosting an open-mic storytelling competition with a theme: Masks. On the Miramar Cultural Center stage, participants will recite a prepared five-minute story discussing masks and their consequences. Doors open at 6 p.m. where attendees can sign up to perform or just enjoy the presentations. Tickets are $15 and some may be available at the door.
Wednesday
Miramar Chess Club — 7-10 p.m.
Join the Miramar Chess Club for chess games open to the public. All levels are welcome to the Starbucks on Red Road for strategy games and an opportunity to meet new people.
Community Breast Ultrasound Screening — 8:30 a.m.-4:10 p.m.
HerScan Breast Cancer Ultrasound Screening is coming to Miramar to offer ultrasound services that may go further than mammograms and physical exams to detect breast cancer. For a fee of $295, HerScan is offering appointments at the Home2 Suites by Hilton.
Thursday
Miramar puzzle swap — Noon-2 p.m.
The Miramar Branch Library is hosting a jigsaw puzzle party and exchange. If you’ve already put together a puzzle and none of the pieces are missing, bring it and exchange for a puzzle of a similar size. These meetings happen on the fourth Thursday of every month in the multipurpose room.
Free Zumba — 6:30-7:30 p.m
Take the dancing indoors with this free Zumba class with Gabriela Jurado. This free class takes place every Thursday at the Sunset Lakes Community Center, hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam.
