Events in Miramar this week give you many opportunities to get involved and stay informed.

See what community meetings are scheduled or take part in a weekly free class.

Plus, a few fun nighttime outings.

Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Monday, Nov. 17, through Thursday, Nov. 20:

Monday

City of Miramar commission meeting — 7 p.m.

The commission is holding its second meeting of the month, and they’ll discuss agenda items, vote on resolutions and discuss important issues affecting the city. At this meeting, members will discuss various financial issues, upcoming developments and infrastructure projects. This meeting will stream live on Granicus Streaming and is held in person in the commission chambers.

Tuesday

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Zumba at City Hall Plaza is back. This outdoor event brings together dancers of all levels to exercise under the guidance of dance instructor Gabriela Jurado. Join for free and bring water every Tuesday evening.

Planning and zoning board meeting — 6:30 p.m.

The Miramar Building, Planning and Zoning Department is hosting a board meeting that’s open to the public in the commission chambers and at Miramarevents.webex.com. Topics typically discussed are new land developments, neighborhood revitalization and environmental sustainability. This meeting is usually held on the second Tuesday of the month as long as there are agenda items and a quorum.

Wicked trivia — 7 p.m.

World of Beer Bar & Kitchen invites you to “defy gravity and show off your Wicked knowledge,” according to its Facebook event page. Timed just before the theatrical release of “Wicked: For Good” on Thursday, this trivia night is dedicated to knowledge of the two witches in the movies.

Wednesday

Wednesday night chess — 7 to 10 p.m.

This club is always accepting new people. Miramar Chess Club invites the public to meet them at the Starbucks on Red Road for an evening of strategy. All levels are welcome but they do ask that attendees bring their own chess set.

Concorde open house — 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Concorde Career Institute has a location in Miramar and is hosting an open house. This is a free opportunity to meet instructors and learn about health care career opportunities in your area, and get a campus tour. Register to save your spot and attend any time between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Thursday

Blasting Community Advisory Board meeting — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Every third Thursday of the month, Miramar hosts a Blasting Community Advisory Board meeting open to the public. The city is always collecting blasting-related complaints to send to the state fire marshal’s office. As construction of new developments goes on nearby, some houses shake during the blasting. This meeting is held in the Development Services Building.

Zumba Hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Make your way to the Sunset Lakes Community Center for another Zumba class with Gabriela Jurado. Every Thursday, this group meets to dance and exercise together, hosted by the mayor.
