Miramar has its own version of fashion week happening in December.

The fifth annual Miramar International Fashion Weekend, hosted by Commissioner Maxwell Chambers, is meant as a celebration of creativity and community, the Eventbrite page says.

This year, Fashion Weekend has been extended to a three-night event from Friday, Dec. 5, to Sunday, Dec. 7, Chambers told the Miramar News.

While viewing work from local and international fashion designers, fashion enthusiasts also can enjoy two nights of entertainment at Miramar City Hall Plaza.

Opening night will feature local artists and musicians, Chambers said.

Saturday is “the big night,” he said, with high fashion and pieces from local Haitian designer Ruth Louissaint, as well as designers from the Hispanic community starting at 6 p.m.

The event wraps up Sunday by introducing children’s clothing designers at 5 p.m. to accommodate for families in attendance.

The runway is approximately 150 feet long and 2 feet high, and will take up the streets in front of Miramar City Hall.

Fashion Weekend is scheduled the same week as Miami Art Week and Art Basel.

“I’m sure we’ll still get a great crowd this year for those who don’t want to go to Miami,” Chambers said.

All nights are free to attend and parking is free as well, but reserved seating is available for $20 for those who want to avoid standing-room-only sections.
