Toy drives, a health fair and holiday happenings: Your weekend in Miramar
The year is winding down but there are still fun events to attend in Miramar.
Toy drives continue throughout December, where you can donate or receive gifts, and the last few installments of free classes offered by the city will be happening.
Here are some events happening in and around Miramar from Friday, Dec. 19, through Sunday, Dec. 21:
Friday
Low Impact Aerobics — 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
This free class is offered by Gold and Silver Fitness LLC, designed to create a supportive environment to improve your health. Low-impact workouts are meant to be easier on the joints than high-impact activities such as jumping or running. Join this event hosted by Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center.
Community Health Fair & Toy Drive — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Join We Stand Together Inc at Calixte Medical Center for a combination free health fair and toy drive. Toys are being collected to support Angels for Humanity, an organization collecting and distributing toys across South Florida. Get a free health screening by a professional, enjoy local vendors and engage in a table talk discussion from Baptist Health Cancer Care.
Sneakers on the Ground — 6 to 9 p.m.
Learn line dances and get some exercise at the final Sneakers on the Ground event of 2025. The popular dance party hosted by Commissioner Avril Cherasard isn’t scheduled to return until August. This event is held at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center gym. Miramar residents can attend for free by registering via Eventbrite, and only sneakers are allowed on the floor, no boots.
Saturday
Free Yoga — 10 to 11 a.m.
According to Miramar’s newsletter, free yoga classes are back every Saturday at the Miramar Cultural Center Botanical Garden. Bring your own mat and your willingness to learn to stretch and pose in a scenic outdoor environment. Guests are encouraged to register for free on Eventbrite.
Walk-Up Food Distribution — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Social Services is hosting a free food distribution just in time for the holidays. This installment of the city’s distributions is held at the Multi Service Complex and designated for Miramar residents only. Supplies will be given out until 1 p.m. or until all food has been given out. Walk in and bring a cart or something else to carry food in.
Tone C. & Friends 11th Annual Xmas Joy Drive — 2 to 5 p.m.
Another local toy drive is happening this weekend in Miramar. At the Sunoco gas station at 7520 Pembroke Road, kids are welcome to pick out a gift. There will also be free haircuts, snacks and festivities for them to enjoy. Host Mayor Management is also accepting volunteers and donations via Cashapp and Zelle.
Sunday
Chanukah Festival — 5 p.m.
Prepare to close out the week-long Hanukkah festivities with Chabad of Pembroke Pines’ Chanukah Festival at Pembroke Gardens, 527 SW 145th Terrace. The shopping center will host a grand menorah lighting, giveaways and prizes, face painting, crafts, latkes and doughnuts. Admission is free and open to the public.
