Free classes are still on offer every week, and the city commission is back with its first meeting of the year.

Here are some events happening in the city from Monday, Jan. 19, through Thursday, Jan. 22:

Monday

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration — 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Miramar will host a celebration at Lakeshore Park in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with a parade starting at 11 a.m. and a party going from noon to 2 p.m. Enjoy watching the parade go around the road around the park and the food and music happening afterwards. Reserve your spot in advance on Eventbrite.

National Championship Game watch party — 5 p.m.

Hookahbachi is hosting a watch party for the college football national championship game — the Miami Hurricanes against the Indiana Hoosiers. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the game starts at 7:30 p.m. Fans enter free until 8 p.m. Championship night will feature drink and hookah specials all night long.

Tuesday

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

World of Beer has trivia nights all the time, featuring your favorite movies and TV shows. This week, test your “Game of Thrones” knowledge while enjoying food and drinks at the restaurant.

Wednesday

Pre-school Open Gym Party — 10 to 11 a.m.

Check out Gravity Gymnastics for free with your preschooler ages 1 1/2 to 5. This is a supervised open gym hour where children can explore and move at their own pace while having fun playing. The movement station, gentle challenges and exploration activities are meant to support early motor development. Register in advance. Parent supervision required.

Afro-fusion Dance for kids — 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

A new class begins Wednesday for kids ages 8 to 13. “Step into the rhythm and unleash your child’s inner groove,” the Miramar Cultural Center writes. “Designed for young dancers eager to explore the vibrant world of African-inspired rhythms and movements, the classes blend energetic choreography with cultural beats.” The classes are every Wednesday and Saturday through Feb. 25, where there will be a showcase. Registration is $90 for six weeks of classes.

Commission meeting — 7 p.m.

This is the first meeting of the year for the City of Miramar Commission. The city will give updates on projects it is completing, and the police chief plans to give a crime update, according to the agenda. Attend in person in the City Hall commission chambers or watch live on the city’s website.

Miramar Chess Club — 7 to 10 p.m.

Get your chess set ready. Every Wednesday, the Miramar Chess Club takes over the Starbucks on Red Road to play fun games against each other. New players are always welcome, regardless of skill level. Come to strategize and make new friends.
