Super Bowl parties, Trick Daddy talks, fitness classes. Your Miramar weekend guide
Miramar is celebrating Black History Month at nearly every event in February, and they are just getting started.
Super Bowl celebrations, yoga classes and dance classes all have a Black History Month theme.
Catch the big game at a local bar or find out what guests will be at First Fridays this month. Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Friday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 8:
Friday
Low Impact Aerobics — 9 a.m.
If you’re interested in free classes, try this low-impact aerobics class. The moves get your heart rate up without putting too much stress on your joints — nothing high-impact like jumping. Participants of all fitness levels can join at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center.
First Fridays: Network and Chill — 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Mayor Wayne M. Messam’s monthly networking event takes place at the Miramar Cultural Center. This month’s guests are rapper Trick Daddy and Christopher Smith, owner of Sistrunk Smitty’s Wings. Both have businesses in historic Sistrunk in Fort Lauderdale, and will discuss entrepreneurship and community development. It’s free to RSVP but space is limited.
Saturday
Free Yoga Saturdays — 10 to 11 a.m.
This free class happens every Saturday at the Miramar Cultural Center Botanical Gardens, but this Saturday it’s the Black History Month edition. Wear red, yellow, green and black to show enthusiasm for Black history. Participants are expected to bring their own mat and water, and follow along to steps perfect for beginners and the experienced.
Align and Thrive — 10 a.m. to noon
Walker Chiropractic and Wellness Center hosts gatherings with free chiropractic services and helpful health information for the community. Align and Thrive will feature expert information on weight loss, fitness advice from trainer Xavier Bryant and complimentary spinal screenings. Register for free on Eventbrite.
Sunday
Divine 9 Super Bowl Watch Party — 5:45 to 10 p.m.
Black History Month meets Super Bowl 60 at this party at the Miramar Cultural Center. This free event combines food, fun, football and Black Greek organizations. Whether you’re repping with Seattle Seahawks or New England Patriots jerseys, Black History Month colors or your Divine 9 gear, this community gathering aims to bring everyone together.
Bad Bunny Big Game Brunch — 11 a.m.
If you’re more interested in the Super Bowl halftime show, celebrate Bad Bunny’s performance at World of Beer. The restaurant usually serves weekend brunch, but this time it will include a twist of the Reggaeton artist’s music. Enjoy his greatest hits over breakfast, and watch the big game later.
