Dancehall DJs to battle for $1,000 at Selecta Showdown
Selecta Showdown will bring three women dancehall DJs to Shirley Branca Park on Friday to clash for a $1,000 prize in front of a live crowd. The night will mix dancehall, R&B and soca while also honoring Wayne Wonder with a Dancehall Legend Award, so organizers say to expect a party vibe with plenty of dancing and singalongs.
Praise on the Green announces gospel lineup
Praise on the Green will turn City Hall lawn into a gospel stage on Friday with a free concert led by Jamaica’s Minister Marion Hall, the former “Queen of Dancehall” Lady Saw turned gospel artist. Joined by Otis Kemp and Reverend Mark Brown and Choir, the show and aims to blend faith, reggae and Black culture while honoring legends like Cat Coore and Jimmy Cliff.
Afro-Carib Fest features several prominent artists
Afro-Carib Festival returns to Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater with a free, Caribbean-flavored night headlined by reggae veterans Steel Pulse alongside soca star Skinny Fabulous and other regional acts. The Saturday event, hosted by Commissioner Carson “Eddy” Edwards, promises reggae, soca and Latin sounds, with gates opening at 5 p.m.
