Open mic night, networking mixer, Pilates, trivia and more: This week in Miramar

Whether you want an evening outing or something to do with the kids, Miramar has events for you happening this week. Start the week with the Miramar Run Club and join Haus of Align later in the week for Pilates classes. The city is also holding a community meeting where you can give input on its strategic plan.

Here are some events happening in Miramar this week from May 11-14:

Monday

Set the Pace — 6:45 p.m.

The Miramar Run Club welcomes all paces. Run with them for free every Monday, starting at Miramar City Hall Plaza. The run begins at 7 p.m. and lasts 30 minutes, whether you run, jog or walk. Sign up with a Speedy Laps account.

Tuesday

Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime — 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Get ready for preschool with the Miramar Branch Library. Along with free storytime, kids can participate in games and activities that can help develop their social skills. Have questions about the next step into preschool? Just ask the staff.

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

City Hall Plaza turns into a party at night with a free Zumba class led by instructor Gaby Zumba Fit. Every Tuesday, bring your water and your dance moves to this high-energy exercise class.

Mat Pilates — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This mat pilates class is open to all levels. Join Haus of Align at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center for a night of intentional movement. Pilates helps increase strength and alignment, focusing on breath in a calm environment. This class is $24.

Mix & Mingle — 6 to 8 p.m.

The Hispanic Community Advocates and Vice Mayor Carson “Eddy” Edwards are hosting a networking event at Juana’s Latin Sports Bar. Residents can get connected with businesses over light bites. The sports bar is known for its Dominican and Puerto Rican food. Residents from all backgrounds are invited to this free event.

Weekly Live Trivia Night at World of Beer — 7 p.m.

Take your trivia game to the next level at World of Beer. Register at Challenge Entertainment to have your team compete for prizes all year long. It’s free to play.

Wednesday

Concorde Career Institute High School Open House — 2 to 7 p.m.

Concorde Career Institute in Miramar is inviting high school students to check out a career in healthcare. The experience includes a tour, interactive demonstrations, talks with admissions and instructors, and a financial aid workshop. Learn more about financial aid opportunities at this event geared toward high school graduates.

Thursday

Community Outreach Meeting — 6 to 8 p.m.

Miramar wants to hear from you. To help shape the city’s strategic plan, you are invited to the Sunset Lakes Community Center to share your feedback and learn about the strategic plan process. Filling out a survey enters you into a raffle to win an iPad, iPhone or gift cards.

Line Dancing — 6 to 8 p.m.

Join Jammin Jamei for a dance class that any level of dancer can enjoy. Just follow the steps to the line dance and enjoy the music. Make sure to bring water to this free event at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center.

Zumba Hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Whether you know how to dance or not, follow along with these Zumba moves and you’ll get a good workout in. Instructor Gabriela Jurado will host at the Sunset Lakes Community Center for free.

Pilates In The Park — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Meet Haus of Align at Miramar Regional Park for another Pilates class. All levels are welcome. Tickets cost $24.

Miramar Student Showcase — 7 to 9 p.m.

Miramar’s students will show off their skills in this showcase in partnership with the Miramar Cultural Center. In addition to a visual art display, see musical theater performances, spoken word, singing, music and dance. It’s an opportunity for students to show their work among peer schools what they’ve worked on throughout the school year. Admission costs $5.

Open Mic Night — 8 to 11:30 p.m.

Miramar Seafood and Steak is looking for singers, actors, dancers and other performers for their weekly open mic night. Come support local artists by enjoying the show, or sign up to perform.
