It’s a busy week in Miramar with much to do at the library for kids and adults, and exercise classes throughout the week.

On Thursday, check out an early Juneteenth celebration with the city, or catch an open mic event later that night.

Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Monday, June 15, through Thursday, June 18:

Monday

Writer’s Club — 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Writer’s Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at the Miramar Branch Library. This is a free, adults-only group where you can write with fellow enthusiasts.

Set the Pace — 6:45 p.m.

The Miramar Run Club has several runs throughout the week, but this one is free and open to all. Meet at City Hall plaza for a run where you can jog or walk with pacers, no matter your level; the run starts at 7 p.m.

Tuesday

Rhythms & Rhymes Storytime — 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Every Tuesday, the Miramar Branch Library hosts a free reading event that is focused on preparing for preschool. If your child is preschool age, they can enjoy activities and books that are meant to develop their learning and social skills.

Roaring Into Summer — 11 a.m. to noon

Presented by the Museum of Discovery and Science, this free kids event at the Miramar Branch Library is focused on STEM and dinosaurs. Young ones will get to play paleontologist, learning about dinosaurs and designing their own.

Family Movies hosted by Miramar Branch Library — 2 p.m.

Beat the heat by staying inside with the Miramar Branch Library and watching a movie the whole family can enjoy. Don’t forget to bring your popcorn and blankets. Call the library at 954-357-8180 for movie showings.

Zumba on the Plaza — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

City Hall plaza comes alive when Gaby Zumba Fit shows up. This free Zumba class is filled with fun dance moves to Latin music. The group meets on the right side of the plaza. Make sure to bring water.

Mat Pilates — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Bring your mat and your focus to the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center for this mat Pilates class with Haus of Align. Pilates movements focus on strength and breathing, and this one is open to all levels. Each class is $24 on Eventbrite.

Weekly Live Trivia Night at World of Beer — 7 p.m.

World of Beer hosts trivia night with themes and prizes every Tuesday. If you gather your team, register them at Challenge Entertainment to officially compete. Joining the competition is free.

Thursday

Postpartum Breastfeeding Support Memorial Hospital Miramar — 11 a.m. to noon

This is an in-person support group that focuses on breastfeeding. Memorial Hospital brings on a board-certified lactation consultant to guide new parents through the process. This group meets monthly to provide encouragement from other moms, for free.

Line Dancing — 6 to 8 p.m.

Line Dancing in public takes practice, and this is the place to learn. Jammin Jamei shows up every Thursday to the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center to teach line dances to popular songs. This two-hour class takes a lot of exercise, so make sure to bring water.

Miramar Juneteenth Celebration Dinner & Awards Presentation — 6 to 9 p.m.

Miramar will officially celebrate Juneteenth on Friday, but is adding to the celebration with an awards dinner on Thursday. The dinner is free and requires registration on Eventbrite. The featured guest speaker is Dr. George C. Fraser, chairman and CEO of FraserNet, Inc., a business networking organization and home of the PowerNetworking Conference.

Blasting Community Advisory Board Meeting — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

All are welcomed to attend this advisory board meeting on the third Thursday of every month at the Miramar Development Services Building. The Blasting Community Advisory Board advises the commission on issues pertaining to blasting noise and tremors in the area. Become a committee board member by reaching out to the city clerk or show up to give your opinion on the issues.

Zumba Hosted by Mayor Wayne M. Messam — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Instructor Gabriela Jurado leads a Zumba class every week at Sunset Lakes Community Center. Zumba combines dance and exercise to make for a fun, high-energy workout. Make sure to complete the city’s release form before attending.

Pilates In The Park — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Try this mat Pilates class outdoors at Miramar Regional Park. Haus of Align hosts the event that teaches exercises focused on alignment, strong movement and breathing. Bring a mat to this $24 class.

Open Mic Night — 8 to 11:30 p.m.

Calling all singers, dancers, actors and musicians. If you’re looking to show off your skills or just want to enjoy some local talent, this night at Miramar Seafood and Steak is for you. Show up and support for free or enjoy the restaurant menu.
