Thanksgiving is coming up soon, and many people are still dealing with the affects of the federal government shutdown.

Many federal workers have been without paychecks for over a month, and SNAP benefits have only been partially filled.

If you’re looking for ways to make the holidays easier on your wallet, there are turkey giveaways on Saturday, Nov. 15, in Miramar to help fill that need.

Here’s how residents can prepare for Thanksgiving with food distributions happening Saturday:

City of Miramar

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Miramar Regional Park, the city will give out one complimentary turkey per family to Miramar residents. Register to pick one up on Eventbrite and show your registration QR code when you arrive — no need to get out of the car.

Willie Rawls Jr. Foundation

The Willie Rawls Jr. Foundation is hosting a turkey giveaway from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at River Run Park. No appointment is required, but families who want a turkey are encouraged to register. One turkey per household.

Kiwanis Club of Miramar Pembroke Pines

The Kiwanis Club has an annual Adopt-a-Turkey event that provides turkeys and other holiday groceries. If you’re looking to donate goods, Kiwanis is accepting money, donations through Amazon, and a variety of canned goods and mixes. To receive donations, go to Miramar fire station #70 at 9001 Miramar Parkway from 9 a.m. until noon. Volunteers are welcome, too.
