One Miramar department strives to serve residents every day through business programs, housing assistance and attracting investment — a mission that’s being commended on an international stage.

The goal of Miramar’s Economic Development and Housing Department is “to be recognized as the model for transformational solutions in housing and economic development.” Now its status is being renewed by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for excellence in those areas.

The organization was recognized again by the IEDC after three years of successful activity as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO).

“The City of Miramar’s Economic Development and Housing Department displays the professionalism, commitment and technical expertise that is deserving of this honor,” said IEDC President and CEO Nathan Ohle in a June 2 news release.

The AEDO label signals that the organization is high performing, bringing credibility to its operations and leadership.

“The AEDO program is a comprehensive peer review process that measures economic development organizations against commonly held standards in the profession,” the release reads.

The title comes as the city is slated to undergo major development projects, such as Miramar Cove, and aims to cement its reputation as an attractive hub for aviation, logistics and other industries.

IEDC works to ensure that organizations like Miramar’s Economic Development and Housing Department have the tools they need to best serve the city.

It provides courses, conferences and certifications, and is the largest member organization of its kind in the world.
