A carnival, horror-themed circus and themed brunch: Your Miramar weekend guide

Miramar has an exciting weekend coming up.

A carnival has arrived and will be here for 10 days, starting on Friday, Jan. 9.

There’s also a traveling, horror-themed circus that blends traditional circus arts with immersive theatrical and spooky elements under the big top, with performances all weekend as it begins an 11-day stay in the city.

Plus, the Miramar Cultural Center is offering a new class.

Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Jan. 9-11:

Friday

Low Impact Aerobics — 9 a.m.

Get a sweat in while protecting your joints with low impact aerobics classes hosted by Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne. This free weekly class is meant to be a fun approach to fitness that is good for all fitness levels.

St. Stephen Carnival (Friday-Sunday)

From Friday, Jan. 9, through Sunday, Jan. 18, carnival rides are coming to Miramar. The St. Stephen Catholic Parish Carnival will offer rides, lights, food and music at 2000 State Road 7. On weekdays, the carnival is open from 6 to 11 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to midnight. There will be kid-friendly rides as well as more thrilling ones for teens and adults. Tickets are available for purchase at the gate.

Paranormal Cirque (Friday-Sunday)

Paranormal Cirque will be putting on a show that blends circus acts, theater and cabaret under their big top at Miramar Regional Park. Paranormal Cirque is part of Cirque Italia, which tours with-high energy shows of different themes. The theme at their Miramar stop is “nightmare.” The circus will be in town from Friday, Jan. 9, through Monday, Jan. 19, with shows daily except Tuesday, Jan. 13. Saturday

Free Yoga Saturdays — 10 to 11 a.m.

Mayor Wayne Messam is hosting a free weekly yoga class in the city’s botanical gardens, by the Miramar Cultural Center. All you have to do is bring a mat and get ready to practice your poses. Register in advance at freeyogasaturdays.eventbrite.com.

Bridgerton Brunch — 11 a.m.

A new season of “Bridgerton” on Netflix premiers Thursday, Jan. 29, and this brunch is themed to celebrate it. World of Beer Miramar invites you to a regency-era brunch, promising an “elegant atmosphere” on its Facebook post. Diners are encouraged to wear florals, pastels and regency-inspired looks.

Visual Art Classes: Sculpture and Design — 2 to 4 p.m.

The Miramar Cultural Center offers art classes year round, and this Saturday, the sculpture and design classes begin. There’s still time to sign up for this set of four classes, and together they cost $150 per participant. The classes are geared toward ages 8-13 and end on Saturday, Jan. 31.
