Valentine’s Day weekend in Miramar: Teddy Riley concert, Chinese New Year & more

There is much to celebrate this weekend — Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year and Presidents Day.

For entertainment, there’s a concert at the Miramar Cultural Center and karaoke at World of Beer.

And Saturday morning, there’s a 5K race at Miramar Regional Park.

Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Friday, Feb. 13, through Sunday, Feb. 15:

Friday

Heartbreak Karaoke — 8 p.m.

Sing your heart out at World of Beer’s Heartbreak Karaoke. The restaurant has themed nights and trivia on most weekends. This night is dedicated to love songs.

Saturday

MCC Presents: Teddy Riley and Friends — 8 to 11 p.m.

An R&B Icon is coming to the Miramar Cultural Center. The pioneer of Blackstreet and Guy’s New Jack Swing Sound, Teddy Riley, is bringing out two more groups for a performance. The concert will feature Kut Klose and Guy 2.0, plus hits from the man who produced for Michael Jackson. Tickets range from $75 to $125.

New Year New Me Valentine’s Day 5K — 6:30 a.m.

This Valentine’s Day 5K is for all ages and run levels. The race starts at 7 a.m. at Miramar Regional Park, but parking will close at 6:30 a.m. This is a run/walk, and the fee to participate is $25. If you plan to watch, enjoy food trucks, games, music and other vendors.

Sunday

Black History Month Business Awards and Fireside Chat — 5 to 8 p.m.

This awards event is also a chat that will highlight the songwriter and record producer Teddy Riley’s work in the music industry. They will also give away his book, “Remember The Times: A Memoir by Teddy Riley,” which describes his journey from growing up in Harlem to becoming a musical prodigy, just released Feb. 10. The awards will celebrate excellence in business and leadership. Free registration is required to attend.

Florida Chinese New Year Gala — 6 p.m.

The Miramar Cultural Center is hosting a Chinese New Year celebration. The program is packed with music and dance performances. Traditional Chinese culture will be on display, but modern works will be featured as well, like Disney songs and hip-hop dance. Plus, comedian Joe Wong. Tickets for the gala range from $26 to $69.
