If you’re looking for ways to keep busy in Miramar this weekend, your options range from running a 5K to attending a 21+ charity fete benefitting cancer research.

While this weekend is a little lighter on activities, there are more exciting events lined up for the rest of March, including the Strings, Soul and Sisterhood event March 10 and the Sip of Wine ... A Taste of Heaven dining festival March 14.

Let’s get into the list for Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8:

Saturday

Mayor Messam’s 5K Race — 6:30 to 11 a.m.

The city is holding its 8th Annual Mayor Messam Health & Fitness 5K Run on March 7. A $1,000 cash prize awaits first place men’s and women’s winners at the finish line, but the event also features yoga at 10 a.m., a health fair starting at 8 a.m. and other activities.

The warmup begins at 6:30 a.m., while the race itself kicks off at Miramar Town Center at 7 a.m. It costs $35 to participate. In addition to the grand prize for winning the race, second- and third-place finishers will take home $500 and $150, respectively. It’s not too late to register.

Broward County Waterway Cleanup — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

You can volunteer at the 49th annual Broward County Waterway Cleanup, happening at various parks and waterway systems across Broward. While none of the sites are in Miramar this year, there are plenty of nearby locations where you can help out, including in Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, Oakland Park and other parts of the county.

Free Yoga — 10 to 11 a.m.

The city hosts free yoga classes every Saturday at the Miramar Cultural Center botanical garden. Sign up on Eventbrite.

OASIS Charity Fete — 6 p.m.

This 21+ OASIS Charity Fete at Miramar Regional Park, hosted by Miramar Commissioner Maxwell B. Chambers, will benefit cancer awareness, with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation supporting breast cancer patients and research. Individual tickets now cost $48, but discounts are offered for those buying several together.

DJs will be spinning reggae, R&B, Soca and oldies music. Partygoers are asked to bring their coolers, and they can also purchase drinks or food at The Jerk Join, according to the OASIS event promo.

Sunday

Miramar Run Club Easy Miles — 8 a.m.

The Miramar Run Club is hosting an easy 30-45 minute run plus strides at Vista View Park in Davie. Check out their page for more running meet-ups.
