This weekend in Miramar: Food and wine festival, spring break kickoff & more
Miramar has several big events taking place on either side of the city this weekend.
The 20th annual A Sip of Wine ... A Taste of Heaven food and wine festival takes over Miramar Regional Park, and the Joy and Happiness Fest brings family fun to Shirley Branca Park.
There’s also a dance performance, a spring and summer camp open house, and plenty of ways to get active.
Here’s what’s happening in Miramar from Friday, March 13, through Sunday, March 15:
Friday
Low Impact Aerobics — 9 a.m.
Hosted by Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne, this class happens every Friday at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center. Low-impact aerobics is one way to get exercise without doing high-impact moves such as jumping. Join for free and bring water.
Friday Follow at the Rooftop — 7 p.m.
This hour-long yoga class is all about flow. All levels are welcome, and the instructor will give minimal direction as you attempt poses. Park at the top of the Epic Residences garage, where you will meet the group, and bring a towel in addition to a yoga mat.
Saturday
Yoga at MCC Botanical Garden — 10 a.m.
The Miramar Cultural Center Botanical Garden hosts an outdoor yoga class every Saturday. Enjoy the scenery and follow the moves on your mat along with the instructor. This class is free with RSVP.
Eden’s Table — 11 a.m.
The Catalina at Miramar residences are getting a pop-up coffee shop Saturday morning. Eden’s Table offers matcha drinks with homemade syrup, cold brew and baked goods. Arrive early to secure a drink.
Spring and Summer Camp Open House — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
See what spring and summer camps are available for your kids at this open house by Camp Embark. They will give a preview of what kinds of activities are available, including games, and parents can have a meet and greet with camp staff.
VITA-Income Tax Assistance — 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The IRS offers free income tax assistance through VITA, and walk-ins are available at the Miramar Branch Library. Come to the multipurpose room, first come, first served, and bring all your necessary tax documents. This is free for individuals and families who make less than $75,000.
Joy and Happiness Fest — 3 to 7 p.m.
The free Joy and Happiness Fest takes place at Shirley Branca Park and is all about family fun. There will be activities for kids and teenagers, a comedy show, live music, food and other activities. Plus, bring your pet for the pet-friendly area.
A Sip of Wine … A Taste of Heaven — 7 to 11 p.m.
The signature event of the Miramar Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce is back with a tasting of some of the best restaurants in the area. Tickets for A Sip of Wine ... A Taste of Heaven start at $80 and include wine and cocktail tastings and food samples. The event is scheduled to take place at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater and parking is $10.
‘Streams’ in Honor of Mr. Tony Wilson, CDT Jamaica — 8 p.m.
CDT Jamaica, a group of acclaimed dancers from the island, is honoring the late founder of The Company Dance Theater of Jamaica with a show called “Streams” at the Miramar Cultural Center. Expect contemporary Caribbean dance, impressive athleticism and themes of fluidity. Tickets start at $45.
