Charity 5K, Mother’s Day brunch, live music and more: This weekend in Miramar
Mother’s Day weekend in Miramar means family events, food and live shows. On Friday night, catch dinner and a show, and if you’re looking for brunch, there’s one on Sunday. One weekly yoga class from the city is still happening.
Here are some events happening in Miramar this weekend from May 8-10:
Friday
Live Band Friday (Pre-Mother’s Day Show) — 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Head over to Miramar Seafood and Steak for a live show to go with your meal. This week’s performers are Miami Brown & Friends and singer Majic. Make a Yelp reservation to secure your spot.
Saturday
Jamaica Hi-5K — 7 a.m.
The Jamaica Hi-5K benefits an initiative that helps clinics around Jamaica. Run or walk with a team or solo, for $40 per person at Miramar Regional Park. The initiative is led by hosts Consul General Oliver Mair and Mayor Wayne M. Messam. The price will increase day of, and spots are still open to sign up. Two reggae stars will appear as race ambassadors: Ky-Mani Marley and Spragga Benz. Personal trainer Patrice J. White will also make an appearance.
Free Yoga Saturdays hosted by Mayor Messam — 10 to 11 a.m.
Outside in the Miramar Cultural Center botanical gardens, a group of residents from all experience levels enjoy yoga every Saturday. The class is free, so just bring your mat and some water in order to participate. Make sure to fill out the city’s release form before attending.
Petals and Pastries — 3 to 4 p.m.
South Florida Cupcake artist My Cupcake Love is welcoming moms and kids for a fun event filled with sweets at the Miramar Branch Library. Learn how to make a fondant flower pot cupcake and enjoy tasting it afterward. Tickets are $25 but spots are limited. All supplies are included, and participants ages 5 and up are welcome to attend. ‘Indecent Proposal’ — 8 p.m.
This play is straight from Jamaica, now in Miramar and Coral Springs. Patrick Brown’s “Indecent Proposal” is a story filled with humor and unexpected twists, starring Glen “Titus” Campbell, Courtney Wilson and Sharee Elise. Head down to Everglades High School for a night of drama. Tickets start at $70.
Sunday
Savory Sundays Mother’s Day Brunch — 1 to 7 p.m.
Take your mom out to a late brunch that includes Caribbean and American cuisine. At the Elegance Banquet Hall, enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet, bottomless mimosas, $5 drinks and $2 shots. Activities include a henna tattoo pop-up and a special surprise for moms and children. Tickets are $30 each and $20 for those under 18.
Drawing Plants and Flowers — 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Check out the Drawing Plants and Flowers class by Yanel Hernandez Prieto. At the Miramar studio, learn about the proportion, shading and texture needed to draw stems, petals and leaves. This class costs $49.
