The new Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers restaurant in Miramar attracted a large crowd to celebrate its grand opening on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Attendees filled up the parking lot, arriving early in the morning to get a spot in line.

The opening event at the new location, on the corner of Miramar Parkway and SW 172nd Avenue, featured a live DJ, prizes, Raising Cane’s hats and free food giveaways for early arrivers.

Raising Cane’s has been expanding into South Florida and now has 26 locations in the state.

Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne and Commissioners Carson “Eddy” Edwards and Avril Cherasard cut the ribbon to open the restaurant. Those who waited in line were greeted by Everglades High School cheerleaders, shown in Facebook and Instagram posts by the City of Miramar.

Security and crossing guards manned the entrance to the RK Park View Square plaza, guiding cars into parking spaces or the drive-thru lanes, which were packed with cars.

Miramar resident Joey McGill ate at the restaurant’s opening and talked about the impact Raising Cane’s will have on the city.

“It’s going to have a huge effect. It’s going to bring a lot of unity to the area, especially in this area right here, and a lot of foot traffic from people outside of Miramar,” he told the Miramar News.

“I’ve been to other locations of the franchise, so I just really wanted to come out and support in my own neighborhood.”
