Get ready for a weekend full of free classes, live events and community outreach in Miramar.
There will be a free food distribution on Saturday, and on Sunday, an interactive screening of a throwback film.
Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Friday, Jan. 23, to Sunday, Jan. 25:
Friday
Low Impact Aerobics — 9 a.m.
Free classes in Miramar are available every week, including a low-impact aerobics class. Focus on getting your heart rate up without putting too much stress on your joints by avoiding high-impact moves. This class is open to all fitness levels and takes place at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center.
The ReaXtion Band at Miramar Seafood and Steak — 8 p.m.
This local restaurant hosts events with different DJs and bands, with drink specials. While eating seafood or steak, enjoy a live show from the ReaXtion Band. They’re known for performing covers and bringing upbeat and fun vibes to events.
Saturday
Community Resource Expo and Walk-Up Food Distribution — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Free food will be distributed at this resource event, where different Miramar departments will be available to answer your questions and provide information. At the Alexandra P. Davis Multi-Service Complex, Economic Development and Housing, Miramar police, rental/mortgage/gap assistance programs and Broward County services will all be available.
Free Yoga Saturdays — 10 to 11 a.m.
Join Mayor Wayne M. Messam at the Miramar Cultural Center botanical garden for free yoga. Participants in this class bring their own mat and water. Register online on Eventbrite before attending and get ready to follow poses picked for all yoga levels.
UFC 324 Gaethje vs. Pimblett — 9 p.m.
World of Beer isn’t exactly a sports bar, but two big UFC bouts will be on the screens. Justin Gaethje takes on UK fighter Paddy Pimblett for the lightweight title, while Kayla Harrison defends her title against Amanda Nunes.
Moms of Miramar Listening Session — 3 to 6 p.m.
Commissioner Avril Cherasard is hosting a listening session to better understand mothers who live in Miramar. If you’re a resident and a mom, there’s a group for you at the City Hall commission chambers. Register on Eventbrite and pick the working and entrepreneur moms group, the early childhood and school age mom group, or one of three others. Volunteers will lead community building conversations with participants.
Sunday
‘School Daze’ film screening — 5 p.m.
Enjoy a classic Spike Lee film in a new way at the Miramar Cultural Center. The venue will host an interactive film screening of “School Daze,” a movie dedicated to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). RTWDance will do a live performance during the screening, and attendees are encouraged to wear their HBCU merchandise or Black Greek organization clothing. The movie is rated R and tickets start at $10.
