Park cleanup, shred-a-thon, carnival rides and aerobics: Your weekend in Miramar
This weekend in Miramar, there are more events to enjoy and ways to get involved.
Saturday is a good day to clean out your house of unwanted items or help clean up a local park, and the rest of the weekend has fun activities for the whole family.
Here are some of the events happening in Miramar from Friday, Jan. 16, to Sunday, Jan. 18:
Friday
Low-impact aerobics — 9 a.m.
Every Friday is an opportunity to get exercise in with low-impact aerobics. This class is aimed at all fitness levels and stays inclusive by avoiding high-impact activities. Go light on your joints while still having fun at the Vernon E. Hargray Youth Enrichment Center.
Paranormal Cirque (through Monday)
The final weekend of Paranormal Cirque is here. The R-rated circus experience presented by Cirque Italia is happening at Miramar Regional Park. This thrilling performance showcases acrobatics, tightrope tricks and contortion. The show is not intended for viewers under 17 years old, and tickets start at $30.
St. Stephen Catholic Parish Carnival (through Sunday)
Carnival rides are still open for the weekend in Miramar. The St. Stephen Parish Carnival offers classic thrill rides, fair food and games for the family. Join the raffle for a chance to win prizes. One raffle ticket is $5 while a book of six tickets is $25, and carnival-goers can enter to win prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250.
Saturday
Shred-a-thon — 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Join Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne for a shred-a-thon that’s more than just tossing paper. There are four ways to recycle or trash household items you may be holding on to. Miramar residents can bring their important documents to shred, non-LED lightbulbs to exchange, hazardous home waste and old tech to recycle for free at Forzano Park.
Adopt-a-street Clean Up — 9 a.m. to noon
Student volunteers can get hours by heading to Lakeshore Park and helping with cleanup. This day of service aims to clean up the park in teams, with lunch provided after. Volunteers are required to sign up on Eventbrite and complete the release form and waiver to participate. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the forms.
